BUILD THIS HOUSE
If you have been to Church of Truth for any amount of time, you would have heard the words of Isaiah recited at least once or twice. It’s a verse the church has been planted on and is standing on in our time and day:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
We don’t believe that the good days are just behind us. We believe that this is just the beginning.
Between 1993 and 2004, the church met in at least 6 different locations varying from a home basement, office space, school gymnasium, and churches that offered their space for rent. Seeing Jesus transform many lives, the church multiplied and we outgrew every location. God put a dream in our hearts to have a permanent space we can call home.
A LOOK BACK
In 2004, we took our biggest step of faith and against all odds God opened the door for us to purchase a building in the most desirable location in Vancouver. The Hoop, which used to be a fully equipped basketball facility was getting a new name and a makeover. Putting a downpayment on the building was the first of many miracles and challenges.
This facility with 6 full basketball courts would need a full remodel to accommodate all the daily activities of the church life. The project was divided into 3 phases:
Phase 1: Construct a temporary sanctuary and meeting space for services, create office spaces as well as classrooms to accommodate kids and youth activities.
Phase 2: Build a permanent sanctuary that will seat up to 1200 people for services and special events.
Phase 3: Transform the old sanctuary into a banquet hall and construct a fully functioning kitchen to host church celebration, weddings and other events.
WHAT TODAY HOLDS
We believe we have been faithful in stewarding what God has entrusted us with. We understand that we have outgrown our current needs and are not only building for today, but for future generations and what they will accomplish for the Lord.
Despite many challenges with permits, engineering and architecture, not to mention COVID19, demolition and construction began May of 2022. Contractors have made great progress with concrete, framing and utilities. We are projecting to be finished with Phase 2 early 2023.
This space will increase our capacity to host worship services, reach our neighborhood with a family oriented space, and train up a generation to share the hope of Jesus globally.
